is called The Secrets of Mary Magdalene

This is a documentary about Mary Magdalene and how important she is to the history of Christianity and the Modern World. The Secrets of Mary Magdalene strips away the veils of history to reveal the flesh and blood woman who served as Jesus’ foremost apostle and was likely the love of his life. Based on the nonfiction book Secrets of Mary Magdalene by bestselling authors Dan Burstein and Arne De Keijzer, this documentary uncovers the latest information on one of the world’s most controversial religious figures.

The Book

The book is called Secrets of Mary Magdalene: The Untold Story of History’s Most Misunderstood Woman. It addresses one of the defining mysteries of the last two millennia. It has essays, interviews, stories, and art by some of the greatest thinkers and writers of our time. Authors include Elaine Pagels, Anna Quindlen, and James Carroll. The book that this documentary is based on covers a fascinating range of thought-provoking ideas and questions. Who was the historical Mary Magdalene? What has she meant throughout the last two thousand years? What does she mean to us today?

The film and the book include a very nice collection of viewpoints about the woman who is fast becoming the focus for many people’s spiritual lives. Ranging from the scholarly to what amounts to a love letter. From those rooted in the traditional to those very inclined towards modern thinking. Also, those people whose life work is the study of the feminine principle in religious matters. And a couple who’ve, as they say, “jumped on the bandwagon.”

This documentary is a fine way to enter into today’s consideration of Mary Magdalene. There is one speaker who seems to hold odd agendas concerning the Magdalene. However, this is far outweighed by those whose thoughts and opinions are well worth noting. This documentary is recommended viewing and the book is recommended reading. Especially for all those who are sorting their way through the thicket of today’s rapidly growing interest in the Divine Feminine.
