Let God – A Story of Tremendous Courage Against All Odds

As rumours of gold in California spread across the United States in 1848, Levi decides it is time to head west with Amelia, his young housewife, to stake their claim and build a better life. Against her better judgment, Amelia honours her husband’s demands, leaving her home and family. Secretly, they join the last wagon caravan of the season dangerously late, leaving behind a string of bad debts. On the trail, they encounter unimaginable danger that will ultimately change the course of their lives.

After a savage attack takes her husband, Amelia is left alone and without resources. For the first time, Amelia must take life into her own hands, battling winter, hunger, and the unknown. As she grows weaker by the day, she finds strength in a mysterious and unexpected guide. Survival becomes a race against time and Amelia must find something greater than herself to help survive the frigid winter along the Oregon Trail.

Overall

This is a terrific story! The writer/director and leading actress, Jasmin Jandreau, as Amelia, somehow manage to make this story of survival a powerful movie about trials and a faith that overcomes all odds. It reels you in and you as the viewer will want to continue to watch to see if Amelia will survive. She must deal with a lack of food, winter weather storms, and the threat of creatures in the woods. Her persistence in trying to start a fire is to be admired. The story begins with her alone and through flashbacks the audience learns that she was a music teacher and that her husband, Levi, wanted to move west from Iowa in order to try to hit it big during the Gold Rush. Her wagon is attacked by Indians and she survives because of being in the back where she was resting.

The theme is faith and a reliance on God instead of giving in to despair. Jasmin Jandreau is terrific in this movie which focuses on one main character, the role of Amelia. The point is well made that God isn’t in the Bible alone or church alone but “everywhere”.

Love this movie. My kids could walk walk in at any moment during the film, and I wouldn’t be embarrassed.
It shows a female as strong, spiritual, and a survivalist…even with odds stacked against her, and just a housewife. Not unlike myself, so I felt a special bond to this character.
    Highly recommended.
