Return to The Source – Matrix Trilogy Movie Analysis

The Matrix is an awakening film for humanity. It provides new undiluted experience to glimpse into nature and universal laws through the film’s philosophical message. The laws about Freewill, Divine Love, and Choices. We return to the source where light (creator) created us in the beginning and through influence and experiences, we realise where we should be heading.

This movie is one of the two feature-length documentaries on #8 (The Roots of The Matrix) of the 10-Disc Ultimate Set. It goes over many philosophical concepts that inspired, and are presented in, the trilogy. The makers of this film spend the first half of the film discussing the original film, and the rest of the film then covers parts 2 and 3, with a couple of comments on the Animatrix shorts.

There are clips from the three trilogy movies and interviews with movie commentators. It does a good job of informing the audience about the various symbols in the three films. Although, covering all of the symbolism in the films would obviously take far longer to go over. Besides, one can ask the very appropriate question of whether or not something anywhere near that definite and final is even desired. Desired by viewers or the Wachowski’s alike. That does mean that this film is limited. Rather, it has enough information to enlighten and provide food for thought for the majority of viewers.

Food for Thought

In line with the series, this may provoke debate, rather than give answers set in stone. Whether one cares for this or not may depend on the extent of their knowledge of the themes in the films. Plus their comprehension of the Force that they are speaking of. Does the viewer want to change their fixed or old ideas? And how much have they thought about the presence of such a Force in these three silver screen efforts?

Obviously, the discussions in this film make a difference if one particularly wants to think about the meanings one could possibly take out of them. The film is well-edited and has an appropriate pace. It doesn’t overstay its welcome or repeat itself.

Well worth watching.
