Someone Like You by Adele

Someone Like You by Adele, an English singer, was released as the second single for her album “21” (2011). It was written and produced by Adele and Dan Wilson. The song is a post-breakup ballad and its lyrics take inspiration from Adele’s heartbreak over a past relationship.

Someone Like You became Adele’s first number one single in the UK. The song also reached number one in Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Italy, France and Switzerland. It was Adele’s second number one in the US. With that achievement Adele became the frist female British solo singer in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have two number ones from the same album.

In July of 2011, it became the first single of the decade to sell a million units in the UK and it was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), as well as being certified 5+ platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the US. Someone Like You is the 36th best-selling single in the history of the UK Singles Chart. As of 2015, it is the fourth most downloaded digital single of all-time in the UK.  The song won a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance (54th Grammy Awards for 2011).

Lyrics

I heard that you’re settled down
That you found a girl and you’re married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn’t give to you.Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain’t like you to hold back or hide from the light.I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn’t stay away, I couldn’t fight it.
I had hoped you’d see my face and that you’d be reminded
That for me it isn’t over.

Chorus

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don’t forget me, I beg
I’ll remember you said,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead”

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn’t stay away, I couldn’t fight it.
I’d hoped you’d see my face and that you’d be reminded
That for me it isn’t over.

Chorus

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don’t forget me, I beg
I’ll remember you said,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead.”

Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes
They are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Chorus

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don’t forget me, I beg
I’ll remember you said,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead”.

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don’t forget me, I beg
I’ll remember you said,
“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead.”
